Cinco de Mayo: Taco Roundup!

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Since 2020 was a definite downer, we are celebrating each and every 2021 holiday to the fullest, especially the ones that encourage tequila and tacos! Since we want everyone to celebrate with us, we’ve done a roundup of our favorite taco spots here in Northeast Florida!

Osprey Tacos

“At Osprey we have a different vision for tacos. The tortilla is a vessel for delivering greatness. Every aspect of our creations are well thought out and artfully delivered. Every bite leaves you wanting more! We take food very seriously, but deliver it in a fun, fast, fulfilling and affordable manner. Our chefs utilize only the best North Florida has to offer including local produce and proteins. We take pride in providing a menu with numerous vegan and gluten-free options.

While traditional Mexican street tacos are at the heart of our menu, many of our tacos incorporate local culture and cuisine that make Saint Augustine a unique destination for both tourists and locals alike. Still other tacos are composed of a variety of ingredient combinations from John’s numerous culinary experiences. We also create two “Fresh Catch” tacos daily that are always changing based on what is in season. These many different varieties of tacos and bowls provide you with fun and unique choices that you wont experience anywhere else!”

Corner Taco

“Corner Taco started in 2011 as a tiny 100 square foot taco stand inside of an Oceanfront Bar in Jacksonville, Florida. We had a wood burning grill that was fueled by local Pecan wood and made fresh tortillas daily. In 2012, we became one of the first food trucks in the South, serving Mexclectic tacos from a 1965 Airstream. We developed a cult like following with lines that were sometimes 100 yards long. Corner Taco was apart of the emerging gourmet food truck movement that now exists in Jacksonville (currently around 150 mobile vendors).

Our standards have always been higher than most restaurants, and some of Jacksonville's best food now comes from food trucks. We earned 2 Slow Food Snails of Approval in 2011, and are likely the only Mexican Restaurant within several hundred miles to have earned that honor (commitment to local, high quality ingredients).”

TacoLu

“TacoLu opened in 2008 in a little building on Beach Boulevard. From the beginning, many people--including Debbie and me (but mostly Debbie)--were dubious about the timing and future of our little taco stand. Aside from the fact that no one could pronounce the name, the American economy was tanking, and most people thought it was "just plain silly to open a business in these conditions," we still thought it was a worth a shot. It was either open our own place or go to work for someone else, I thought, and so we were off!

It took a while, but the Lu eventually gained a life of its own (and quite an extensive Tequila list in the process)! After 5 years in the original location, with an unbelievable amount of patronage and support, we grew into our current building, the site of the old Homestead Restaurant, which has SO MUCH history and excitement attached to it!

We take our hats off to those who came before us, as we carry on the tradition of great food and tons of fun at the old Homestead! We hope you'll stop by and join us soon!”

Tacos My Blessing

Taco My Blessing food truck serves authentic Mexican street food such as tacos, tortas, sopes, quesadillas, pambazos and burritos. They offer outdoor seating with umbrellas as their location outside of Bog Brewing Company near downtown St. Augustine.
