Splash Talk with Tijana Ibrahimovic

Tijana Ibrahimovic of Fashion Reverie Talks was gracious enough to sit down and answer some questions that we are excited to share with you. If you’ve ever thought about changing the path that you are on or how to perfect a Simon Cowell interview, read on. We are 100% sure that her favorite accessory is ours, too!

How did you get started in the Fashion Industry?

I have always loved fashion so it simply happened naturally. Fashion lovers recognize each other. We talk about designers, new stores or we pay attention to each other’s styling. Fashion is one of my big passions and I love talking about it. However I am a maximalist not a minimalist so you can easily tell when a collection bores me. I don’t hide how I feel so this could be what makes me a commentary people enjoy hearing.

Fashion Reverie Talks is a fun and super-informative platform for gabbing about Fashion in an informal way that draws the listener in. How did you get involved and what is your favorite part of FRT?

I have been Fashion Reverie’s celebrity style editor for years and wrote a lot of articles about fashion but writing was never my first choice. As a broadcast journalist and someone who loves to work on camera I was very happy when I was asked to be part of Fashion Reverie Talks. Talking about the latest topics in the fashion industry with a component of pop culture is my idea of fun! So far my favorite segments are our pop up quizzes by Scott R. French from Very New York. Might have something to do with me winning each of the quizzes we had so far.

Can you tell us about your first interview with a famous celebrity?

My first interview with a big celebrity was at the International Emmy Awards. I interviewed Simon Cowell on the red carpet. It wasn’t the best since it was my first time at the International Emmy Awards, I wasn’t given any info about the event from the person that sent me there and I didn’t have too much experience in entertainment. I came from informative, news programming. Given Simon’s reputation I was bracing for a controversial response from him, but he was very gracious.

When you initially came to the US, what were your career aspirations? Did you ever think that you would do something outside of fashion?

I do not only cover fashion. In addition I cover entertainment, pop culture, travel, events and if there is breaking news or something happening in NYC I report for news channels abroad. My first love was theater and acting so when I came to NYC as an international student this was my visualized career path. As I continued my education I decided to take broadcast journalism as my major.

You have such a great presence in front of the camera.  How did you learn to remain calm and so well spoken while the camera is rolling?

Thank you. For me the camera doesn’t make a big difference. If anything it energizes me. I love to share space with the audience. I feel responsible to deliver what interests them and to ask the right questions.

If you could mentor younger people that aspire to have a career like yours, what would you tell them to focus on?

Choose a career you are passionate about. If you are ready for lots of ups and downs, capable of dealing with rejection, being underestimated and still feel you can keep your head high then go ahead, join the ride. But be aware that it is not easy. It is a very competitive business.  I also have a lot more to work on and have not yet achieved what I planned.

How do you prepare for working on set, or in front of the camera? (You look so flawless and engaging on film!)

I always make sure I am familiar with my subject. This is very important but it is also important to be flexible and easily adjust to any on air changes or unpredictable situations. This is of course much more important when you are going live. If something is pre-taped it is easy, anything can be fixed or done again. Of course, look presentable!

When working from home or abroad, what techniques do you use to keep you on track, professionally?

I am always ready. I don’t think I have any techniques. You can’t think about it too much. It is probably what I learned from doing news and quick red carpet interviews. You have to use any opportunity that comes to you, nobody will wait for you to go over your techniques. It is just the nature of this industry.

Is there one person that you would love to interview and what would you ask them?

Madonna. I think she is an icon and she keeps reinventing herself. When I do, you will know my question.

_______________________

What is one of your favorite childhood memories?

My family. meals, celebrations, travels, our pets.

Now that the world is opening up, where would you like to travel to this year?

I am planning to go to Mexico, Austria and Egypt for now. I would like Saudi Arabia and Dubai to be on that list. Let’s see.

Is there one accessory that you never leave home without?

Sunglasses. My favorite accessory. Makes you always look better. Dressed up or down it always makes the look come together well.

If you could give your younger self one piece of fashion advice, what would that be?

Don’t hesitate. Tell others your goals. You never know who can help you and think of you at the right moment.
