Craft Cocktail Roundup: St. Augustine Edition

When I first moved to St. Augustine, my idea of a craft cocktail was a Sex on the Beach in a red solo cup from Panama Hatties - fellow Flagler grads, you know what I mean. After some wild college nights drinking all kinds of (less than) craft cocktails, I found myself on the other side of the bar, leaning just how meticulous the art of bartending can really be. Through my years in the industry, I watched the St. Augustine bar scene turn from wild college party bars to an incredible craft cocktail scene with some of the most talented mixologists i’ve ever seen. Don’t get me wrong, we still have some of those college hot spots, but if you find yourself still considering a Sex on the Beach a craft cocktail, do yourself a favor and scroll down to see some of the incredible things you’re missing!

Odd Birds

Where oddness rules. This well know craft cocktail hot spot is known for its Bartender’s Call. Simply sit at the bar and tell your bartender what you like. From there, they will craft you the perfect, one-of-a-kind cocktail. Sweet, spicy, smoky, sour? You name it, they’ll nail it! Even better? You never quite know what vessel your drink will be served in. Living up to their name, Odd Birds prides itself on unique garnishes and odd glassware that you won’t find anywhere else.

Ice Plant Bar

Inspired by the historical period of the early 20th century, Ice Plant Bar’s idea was to reintroduce their guests to a time where the experience of having a cocktail and a bite to eat was both healthful and enjoyable. Focused on the art and craft of mixing exceptional local ingredients in precise measurements to create perfect and unique flavor profiles.

Fresh, house-pressed juices and a wide assortment of bitters and specially developed syrups, result in stunning cocktails. Attention is paid to the smallest of details with three different kinds of ice, including a nod to the building’s original use as an Ice Plant, with a 300lb block of ice and custom cubes.
